GymSport Levels Program
GymSports FNQ offers a progressive Recreational Program that follows the Australian Levels Program. Levels 1 & 2 are completed through our GymFun and GymSkills Programs and the GymSports Levels Program allows gymnasts to progress through Level 2–5. The program allows members to develop and progress in their gymnastics at their own pace while also having time to participate in other activities/sports. All gymnasts moving into the GymSports Levels Program will begin training Pre 3 while continuing to practice their Level 2 skills with more of a focus on routines and preparing them to be ‘competition ready’. The jump in skills from Level 2 to Level 3 is significantly more complex and it can take time for some gymnasts to master the Level 3 skills so clubs in the FNQ Region have included a Pre 3 Level at which gymnasts can compete.
Recommended training for GymSports Levels gymnasts:
Level 2 – Pre 3: 1–2 lessons per week
Level 3: 2–3 lessons per week
Level 4–5: 3–4 lessons per week
All classes are 2–hour sessions offered 4 nights per week – Monday to Thursday from 5.30–7.30pm
Competition Calendar
During the year gymnasts will be offered an opportunity to compete at events held within the Cairns region as well as attend two compulsory events at South Cairns – Winter Warm Ups and Halloween. These two events are compulsory for all GymSports Levels Gymnasts and will be invoiced with your term Fees. Participating at these events will provide the opportunity to formally ‘grade’ for a level badge.
The Junior Competition Season generally runs from May through to the end of October.
Although we use the term ‘compete’ gymnasts do not compete against other gymnasts in Level 2 and Pre 3. Similar to the Assessment Day format, gymnasts in these levels will receive a participation medal and ribbons colour coded to their individual performance. In Levels 3–5 the format of their competition transitions from certificate based to competitive gymnastics where they will have the opportunity to compete against other gymnasts and potentially be awarded from 1st–6th place in each
apparatus and overall.
