Welcome to the Competitive Program

The following information is designed to assist you in gaining an understanding, or serves you as a reminder of what you as a parent/guardian can expect from the GymSports FNQ Competitive Program. It outlines the opportunities gymnasts will have during the year and highlights the expectations that GymSports FNQ & South Cairns Gymnastics will ask you and your child while participating in the program.

To accept your gymnasts position into the Competitive Program please ensure you carefully read and consider this information, in conjunction with the Parent Code of Conduct, prior to submitting the below form. Non-compliance throughout the year may result in your gymnast being withdrawn from continuing in the competitive program pathway.

GymSports FNQ (GS FNQ) is continually working to develop each program offered at South cairns Gymnastics.
The aim of the Competitive Agreement:

Assist families to enrol into a program where their commitment aligns with the program expectations
Contributes to maintaining and improving the standard of competitive gymnastics within the Cairns region and beyond
Assists families in understanding the importance of ongoing physical preparation, benchmarks and testing
Provides transparency of the pathway for South Cairns Gymnastics Competitive gymnasts
Supports GymSports FNQ in offering competitive classes that differ from the recreational and GymSports Levels Program classes offered

South Cairns Gymnastics Club Membership:

I understand that a new Club Membership is required each year to ensure all contact and medical details are correct and up to date

I understand that the Club Membership fee MUST be paid by the due date to ensure your gymnasts place in the squad and your gymnasts insurance through Gymnastics Australia is registered prior to any training

I understand that this fee is set by the South Cairns Gymnastics Management Committee and includes Membership Subscription with Gymnastics Queensland; Administration fee to Gymsports FNQ; Building and Contents Insurance and building and equipment maintenance. GS FNQ forwards on all Club Membership fees to South Cairns Gymnastics (less a small admin fee).

Finances: Training Fees

I understand that Competitive Training fees are calculated per squad and are invoiced one month in advance. Monthly invoices include, term training, holiday training, display rehearsals/additional training and incidentals such as tape, chalk, hydralytes etc

I understand that invoices will be issued on the first of each month and due on the last day of each month. Failure to pay by the due date may result in your gymnast from being suspended from training until the fees are paid or a special circumstance arrangement has been made in writing with the GS FNQ Accounts Manager, Nicki.

I understand that Make up classes are not offered in the Competitive Program due to the diversity between each squad

I understand that classes cancelled due to competitions, events and severe weather events where GS FNQ staff are required to attend/remain home for safety will not be credited.

I understand that in the event of my gymnasts coach being unavailable due to illness, injury or attend training, GS FNQ will take all measures to provide a suitably qualified coach to avoid any cancelled classes. In this case any classes cancelled for more than 2 training sessions will be considered for a credit

I understand that if my gymnast is invited to move into another squad that I will automatically be invoiced for the 'new' squads monthly payment fee from the 1st of the proceeding month no matter what the timing of the move is during the month

I understand that Compulsory Holiday Training is included in my monthly invoices and payment is required whether training is attended or not, any additional Optional training will be invoiced accordingly.

I understand that if my gymnast is away for an extended period (more than 2 weeks) please notify in writing both Alysha (Events Manager) and Nicki (Accounts Manager) as far in advance as possible. Extended periods of leave will be considered for a credit of fees. In the event of illness or injury please note a Medical Certificate is required.

I understand that should my gymnast choose to finish part way through the year, I will be required to advise GymSports FNQ providing 4 weeks notice. A closing balance invoice will be issued covering the fees up until the end of the 4 week period. This final account is to be paid in full within 7 days

Competitive Training Expectations:

I understand the importance of maintaining my gymnasts high attendance (above 85%). Gymnastics encompasses the mastery of a large range of areas; balance, swing, speed, Aerial awareness, rhythm, choreography, flexibility and strength. Mastery is achieved through volume of repetition and sound technique from all gymnasts be they Level 1 or Level 10

I understand that if my gymnasts training falls below the 85% of class attendance without valid reason they may be invited to transition into a program where their commitment aligns with the program expectation

I understand that gymnasts are required to maintain a minimum level of physical preparation, mental readiness and skill development to continue in the Competitive Program. Physical Ability Development (PAD) Testing takes place 4 times a year and captures a snapshot of the physical and mental capacity of the individual gymnast. PAD Testing is a measure to safeguard the gymnast from injury or low self-esteem and allows coaches to track a gymnasts progress against the Qld testing Standard and choose the long-term skills & program which aligns to the athlete's potential.

Training: Well Being Care

GymSports FNQ and South Cairns Gymnastics continue to build relationships with 'Well Being' businesses, ie: Physio, Massage, Sports Physiologists and Nutritionists to maximise and support each gymnasts potential and promoting healthy life choices. I understand that our Competitive gymnasts will have an opportunity to attend various 'Well Being' sessions if/when available throughout the year

I understand that if a risk of injury/health concern has been identified by a coach or support team, that it is recommend that the gymnast and family seek appropriate specialised assistance

Competitions, Holiday Training & Events:

I understand that it is an expectation that gymnasts in the Competitive Program participate in the Compulsory Competitions, Holiday Training & Events

I understand that although it is an expectation that my gymnast will be attending compulsory competitions, there is a requirement for me to nominate for these events via the Competition Nomination form on the website. This process ensures that all families are keeping up to date with future competitions

I understand that the Competition & Events Calendar is subject to change throughout the year

I understand that WAG & MAG Level 1 & 2 can be tested at any event however this must be approved by the GymSports FNQ Head Coach.

I understand that WAG & MAG Level 3 and above must be tested at a sanctioned competition. I understand that although Level testing is a requirement to move from one level to the next, passing a level doesn't mean they automatically move to the next level. Gymnasts are always working towards up skilling and will compete at the next level once they have the required skills.

Nominating for Competitions, Holiday Training & Events:

I understand that I will be required to nominate/decline for all competitions, holiday training & events held within each Term. This process has been implemented to allow families to plan ahead as well as simplify the administration process for each event

I undertstand that I will be invoiced for each individual competition within that term once GS FNQ receives an official invitation from the Host Club.

I understand that any additional Optional Holiday Training that my gymnast attends will be invoiced accordingly

Competition Host Club Nomination fee:

I understand that the Host Club Nomination fee is set by host club and all monies are forwarded onto the host club. Nominations fees vary with each event with the average nomination being $60-$70 (excluding Qld Clubs, Regional & State Championships which cost approx. $100-$160

I understand that refunds / part thereof for the Host Club Nomination Levy will only be issued in the case of illness or injury. Please note that a Medical certificate is required to be sent to the host club and it is their discretion to honour any refunds.

Competition GymSports FNQ Coaches Levy:

I understand that the GS FNQ Coaches Levy is to assist with the expenses incurred for coaches and judges to attend competitions. The levy varies depending on the number of gymnasts attending; the location the competition; number of coaches; sessions and judges required

I understand that the Coaches Levy is non-refundable once it has been invoiced. The Coaches levy is calculated on the number of gymnasts attending and is kept as close to cost as possible.

I understand that the Coaches Levy MUST be paid prior to the competition / or within 7 days of the invoice date. Failure to pay by the due date will result in a $20 late fee

I understand that I will not be required to pay the coaches levy if I withdraw from a competition BEFORE the Coaches Levy is calculated and invoiced. To withdraw from a Competition we require written confirmation via email to competitive@gymsportsfnq.com.au

Training Wear:

I understand that all Competitive gymnasts are required at every training session to wear a full piece leotard (preferred) or a sports crop top and bike pants/leggings

I understand that all Competitive gymnasts hair MUST be neatly and securely tied back, with hair below the shoulders plaited and looped in a bun. fringes must be secured or left above the eyebrows. Please note that Bobby Pins are NOT permitted due to safety, please use flat clips

I understand that all Competitive gymnasts from Ruby squad up are required to wear safety guards for the wooden bars and loops for metal bar. These will be checked, measured and ordered several times throughout the year

I understand that all Competitive gymnasts are required to bring a water bottle to every training session. These can be filled using the cold water bubbler during training

Competiton Uniforms:

I understand that the purchase of a Competition Leotard is required for Competitions by all Competitive gymnasts

I understand that the purchase of a Competition Tracksuit (Jacket & Pants sold separately) is optional for Levels 1-3 and Compulsory for Levels 4-10

I understand that the purchase of a Club Backpack is optional for Levels 1-3 and Compulsory for Levels 4-10

I understand that uniform orders will be placed several times throughout the year. These are bulk orders and will not be ordered individually

I understand that my gymnast will receive a Club Polo as required. Club Polos are not issued each year, only when a new size is required or design has had a significant change in design. Club Polos are also available for Parent/Guardian's to purchase

Please note that ALL WAG Competitive gymnasts will be required to wear the newly released Club Leotards in 2024. Leotard design is normally up for review every 5 years however due to unforeseen circumstances including Covid we have allowed extra time with the current designs which have now been utilised for the past 7 years; 2017-2023.

Communication:

I understand that ALL class absences or other quick messages are to be communicated via TEXT MESSAGE to the club mobile phone 0432 813 446, please save this number to your phone contacts

I understand that all account enquiries are to be communicated with the GS FNQ Accounts Manager Nicki, please save her email to your contacts accounts@gymsportsfnq.com.au

I understand that all competition, event and holiday training information will be communicated through the GS FNQ Events Coordinator Alysha, please save her email to your contacts competitive@gymsportsfnq.com.au

I understand that all communication regarding programming, training questions/concerns can be communicated through the GS FNQ Club Manager Karen, please save her email to your contacts info@gymsportsfnq.com.au

I agree to be included in a Facebook Messenger group for my gymnasts squad. The messenger group will include the Squad Coach (18+), Club Manager Karen, Events Coordinator Alysha, Accounts Manager Nicki and 1-2 parents of each of the gymnasts in the squad. The messenger group is to be used as a quick form of communication for individual groups needs and to share information for events/competitions & photos. If you don't have messenger (Facebook), please let us know asap that we can arrange an alternative

I understand that I MUST NOT CONTACT COACHES PRIVATELY. All communication is to be made via the club phone, messenger group or email. This policy is in place to protect both the families and the coaches as well as to separate work and family time for our coaches. As I am sure you can understand and appreciate, coaches (just like teachers) are not on call 24/7

Club Support:

I understand that as with most sporting clubs South Cairns Gymnastics rely on the volunteer support of parents/guardians to be able to offer club events, such as Winter Warm Ups, Halloween Invitational and Tumble in the Tropics. These events are major fundraising opportunities and essential for the successful running of GymSports FNQ @ South cairns Gymnastics

I understand that as a member of the Competitive Squad Programs that all families are required to assist at these 3 events (mentioned above). Assistance can be provided in the way of manual labour, canteen service, food preparation, door/ticket sales, cleaning, judging and sponsorship

I understand that all members of South Cairns Gymnastics are strongly encouraged to partake in fundraisers such as Pie Drives, Raffle Sales, attending working bees, grant writing, becoming a committee member (Management or General)

I understand that there is the opportunity for Competitive families to fundraise and/or seek sponsorship to go towards reducing the competition levy expenses. As fundraising efforts go towards reducing the competition levy fees if you are not assisting you may NOT be given the reduced levies; we understand that this may suit some families
