COVID-19 UPDATE AS OF 17th DECEMBER 2020

Spectators in the Gym

As you are all aware, the Queensland Government COVID-19 restrictions have affected how we are able to run our gym, including the ability to allow spectators in the gym.  Under the original restrictions, we were limited to 1 person per 4 m2, resulting in a total of 5 people allowed in the spectators area. Cleaning requirements between the usage by different spectators also applied. As we have over 450 gymnasts, a system to accommodate spectators for each gymnast is not possible, therefore spectators are limited to one parent of Under 5’s Program members or one parent of any child undertaking a trial lesson only.
Both GymSports FNQ and the Club are committed to complying with the Queensland Government COVID-19 requirements in order to reduce the risk to the club of potential infections and fines. This includes the implementation of the club spectator policy.
On the 18th November, we were notified by Gymnastics Queensland that COVID-19 restrictions have eased allowing us to increase our spectator viewing to one person per 2 m2 which is detailed as follows:

  1. One parent of Under 5’s Program children
  2. One parent of any child undertaking a trial lesson
  3. Parents of families where more than 2 gymnasts are enrolled and the family members are at the gym for more than 10 hours per week.

As restrictions decrease, we will continue to review the club’s spectator policy, with the aim to implement a spectator timetable to allow more of our parents to spectate as soon as restrictions allow it. We thank you for your understanding on this matter.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your support this year, particularly with regard to the changes we have had to put into place in order to meet the government’s COVID-19 restrictions. We look forward to seeing you back in the gym in the new year.

Regards,
South Cairns Gymnastics Committee members
